All aboard
I had a great day on sunday last, I spent all day at Haworth in West Yorks I was not there to see Charlotte or Emily Brontie's Birthplace I was there for the steam trains at the keighley and worth valley railway, I remember as a boy in Glasgow, on a Saturday morning I would run to the rail bridge and wait for the flying Scotsman to go under, I would wave and the engine driver would hoot his horn at me, it was an exciting time then and today I felt like that little boy again.

The station at Haworth,

A wee lad ready to wave his flag

Everyone was getting excited as the train was within earshot including me!

lineside view of the Haworth platform and I could hear the chuff chuff of the engine labouring up the hill, from this vantage point

The timetable, prices were cheap at £9.60 for the whole journey (all stations and any train)

Haworth is a bonnie wee station and the railway enthusiasts keep it in tiptop condition

I was almost jumping with joy when I saw this sight!

I just stood there with my camera and took as many pictures as I could and then I realised I was near run over by an Iron Horse, as I was too close to the track with my eye in the camera and not on where I was going, boy I did not know I could jump six feet in the air!

Thar she blows train arrives at platform 1

All Aboard for Keighly

I shoved my camera up to the train and shouted cheese and this is the result

who remembers this thing?

And we are off! and I'm on this one! steaming down the track!

Passing another steam train on the way into Keighly

Keighley Station in colour, there was a beer festival going on at all the stations along the track everyone was having a nice time

A city gent enjoying a pint and a chat,,,you can see the reflection of a handsome Scot in the window.

Happy birthday to you this old boy looks as old as the train and he's still going strong he looked as though he has had a few wee ones

guard signals and we are off!

got on board in time to capture this embrace

inside view!

Full steam ahead as we head for home

hold on to your hats! I hung out the windows all day and I had a ball

Back at Haworth and time to go home, what a day I had I smiled all the way home and when I did get home I was covered in soot and smelled like-- according to Susan my partner, a "Steam Train" and you know what that comment made my day. Thanks for reading ..wishing you all the best ,,,Pete

Hi there Pete... What a brill blog that was! Most enjoyed the journey with you. Love the way you started in black and white with nostalgia and then changed to modern in colour ~ it gave a feeling of atmosphere of days gone by and of current times.... and the mobile phone and that good looking fella with a camera reflected to the present day. Loved the way your narrative travelled with the images making it a wonderful presentation. Hope you had a steamy bath to get rid of the smell of trains...LOL.. Great blog Pete. Glad you enjoyed your train ride and your day. Thanks for sharing and compiling.

Wow! Petee wetee this is fantastic! Love the black and white shots (copycat) only kidding! Great narrative too. My friend lives in Keighly and that train runs at the bottom of her garden!! I was there in the summer and got quite a few shots of the train going back and forth. You've done a great job of capturing the era of steam, I loved the blog and gonna favourite it to look at again. More please and more black and white cos I do like it.

Hi Pete
Smashing stuff again. Black and white was a good choice to add that bit of nostalgia to the photoblog. If I were to choose a fave of this wonderful collection of shots, it's hard to choose between the black and white wheels and steam and the 2nd to last one from the window of the train with those Autumn colours in.
A great read and well put together.
Cheers M8

Loved the black and white shots. So right for the subject. The best photos to me are the heads and hands out of the window shots. I hope you enjoyed the day as much as I enjoyed the blog.
