Close-ups in the garden
What else to do on a day like today, pi- (sorry) pouring with rain, dark and dismal, could be the wettest day of the year, but compile a blog of photos taken two days ago. The theme is 'small is beautiful' - I hope you like it.

First up - a bee's eye view inside a Nasturtium,

then on hands and knees between the beanpoles - an ordinary photo but the very first bean blossom of the year.

A tall white Campanula contrasting with the green of the Cotton Lavender.

I only have two carnations - the red one shown in my other blogs and this pretty thing.

Now a set of leaves - each providing a contrast to the brighter flowers but a joy seen close to. This is Euonymus.

A dwarf hebe

Lamium, possibly Beacon Silver. Some of the leaves go this charming blotchy pink.

I think this is Lamium Silberteppich - I'll be happy to be put right. It has yellow flowers.

Lamium maculatum in flower. I can't speak too highly of these Lamiums - they are excellent ground cover (some would say invasive) and they are an excellent draw for early bees.

Lavender - variety unknown.

Seed pod of Love-in-a-Mist - a very prolific self-seeder.

Found this Garden Tiger while grovelling (me, not the moth) for a take on the Cerastium - green velvety leaves.

More seeds - a poppy - an amazing design that opens little portholes at the top when ripe which spray out seeds when the wind blows.

A top view.

This is a seedpod of a Peruvian Glory Vine - one plant will scatter thousands of seeds when the pods go brown and burst.

Last of the seeds - this is an Aquilegia - (Granny's Bonnet).

Veronica - a small variety that has to be admired close to,

and closer. Beautiful.

Had to put this one in - I'm quite pleased with it. I placed the bee on the geranium flower having removed it from behind my left ear and it obliged by staying for pictures.
That's it for now. I shall look forward to taking the S8100fd out into the garden when next the sun shines - or it least when the rain stops. There's always the tennis on the telly, I suppose. Thank you for dropping by.
Best regards,
Steve

Excellent blog, Steve! We have the Tour de France on the TV, but I'm just leaving to go to work! Looks like you have a wonderful garden which brings you much pleasure! For the past week or so, we have had very hot, hazy and humid weather. Temps are in the high 30's with humidex in the mid 40's, not much yard work going on here!!!

Excellent blog. I am on Holiday and decided to drop in, glad I did. Beautiful garden and a big like from me. That bee on the other hand would HAVE NEVER MADE the shots. =/ I am allergic to the degree of death if stung... my camera, bee and garden would have been scrapped as I got the heck out of there.
I don't text and drive, I snap photos. =)

Nice blog as usual, some nice close ups and a bit of banter to go with them, I especially like that seed pod macro. You have done better than me for the weather, it has poured down here and been miserable all day, so your pictures have cheered me up.

Lovely set of shots, Steve. Although the overcast weather may be somewhat despressing, the good news is it's perfect for photographing plant close-ups like these. Thanks for sharing!
