Berwick-Upon-Tweed, Northumberland

caught the train from Kings Cross to Berwick on the 2nd may to visit my friend there for 7 days. Arrived at 2.30 so had plenty of time for a walk. After dumping my bags and taking a picture of the view from her backdoor we  set off for a walk around  the ancient walls. Berwick is the northernmost town in England and is steeped in history. I absolutely loved it and all itsd narrow winding streets and the history of the town. Some of the photo's are taken with my Fuji and some with my canon.

view from Mags backdoor.

road through an opening in the walls. Note Australians no road rage here, everyone gives way to everyone else on the many narrow and winding streets and roads.

part of the walls where we began our walk. It is called walls even though there appears to be only one as I was smartly told when I called it a wall.

view of a churchyard from the walls.

view over Berwick again from the walls.

looking over the roof tops of the town

looking down Marygate/High St

looking out over the ocean with a flock of seagulls.

again looking over the town with the town hall clock tower against the grey sky

The Royal Border Bridge completed in 1850

The Old Bridge as it is known completed in 1634

little blue boat that caught my eye waiting for the tide to come in.

looking over the tidal flats

canons in the walls to protect the town from Scottish invaders.

looking over the wall to parts of the town

more of the roof tops...well it was my first day here and I went a little mad with the camera.

looking into someones front door from the walls again.

some ones lovely back yard from the walls.

the allotments where people who have not much space come to grow there veggies and flowers.

again some ones lovely old house

looking towards the lighthouse.

went to see Tom Slade Live at the theatre that night and this was above the bar so took a photo of it with my phone camera as I liked it so much.
So ended my first day in Berwick..one of 7 happy days spent there

will have to come back and finish this later as finepix is playing up for some reason.

Hi Sue, Just looked on here after getting your email. You've done our old town proud. The pic. looking down the street with the Town Hall at the end is Marygate/High Street. Hide Hill is the street where all the banks are situated. Looking forward to seeing your other blogs when you have time. X
