Vivs neck of the woods
a study of york in black and white
The city was founded by the Romans in 71 AD

The first thing you see when viewing york is The minster.
York Minster is a cathedral one of the largest of its kind in Northern Europe. The minster is the seat of the Archbishop of York, the second-highest office of the Church of England and is the cathedral for the Diocese of York

Yorkshire Wheel in the grounds of The Royal York Hotel, opened to the public on 13 December 2011.

cyclists breed like rabbits in York and its impossible to travel more than a few feet without seeing one.

Part of the Essex gang Dick Turpin was hanged and burried in York

River foss in York and part of the much needed flood barriers

River Ouse the main river running through york

Skeldergate bridge is probably the prettiest bridge over the ouse and was originally a toll bridge

The shopping around bettys tea room area can be a little intense

2.5 miles walk around the city via the city walls

great architecture including York magistrates buildings

Steps leading down to rowntree park

and finish the day in one of the numerous public houses the city has to offer.

Powerful rich B/W shots - love it, especially each one with this great sky in it
The photos really add to the theme, held together by your nice narrative.

Hi John. Fabulous photoblog with excellent compositions. I believe it is your favourite City and the love and passion for York shows through your various shots. B&W shows the place in quite a different light. Love the contrast. I visited Viv in York. (photoblog http://www.myfinepix.com/blog/77182/493459) Thanks for sharing John.

Wonderful captures of York! The black and white seems to bring out the beauty of the city, it really suits it. The Minster looks splendid and ageless in monochrome.
I love the one taken on the walls, that sky is so dramatic and the lighting is gorgeous.
A superb photoblog John, thanks for sharing.

A great set of shots of York John with some good information to go with it. The idea of showing in black and white gives this a real oldie type of feeling which suits this city and works perfect. Like from me. Paul.
(My photos may not be the best but they represent a part of my life to share with those who care to look)

A lovely set of nicely processed B&W images John. As has been said, York appears to suit B&W. Thanks for posting.

A great set of photos, John. I often visit York as my family live there and we are only an hr or so away. I don't always take the camera with me but that's when I usually need it to take photos as there's always something going on...lol

P.S. Not sure how far away I am from Viv but Yorkshire is a wonderful county.
