Brilliant idea and photo for the theme, reminded me of the old opening to the South Bank Show where the two fingers come together and spark.

Good luck.

OH    MY     GOD . . . . .

I'm in deep, deep, shock - anybody got a valium?

Though I'm 42, I only bought my first ever (and only) camera about a year and a half ago - the S5700. I've had immense fun with it, filling up my hard drive with flawed and poorly judged photographs. Very occasionnally, I get it partly right. Since I genuinely could not afford another camera, I am BLOWM OUT and also completely incredulous at what has just happened.

Thanks all you lovely people for your kind and constructive comments, sorry to everyone whose photographs I didn't get round to saying anything about. MASSIVE thanks to the Fuji gods for bestowing your grace upon me - Happy day!

Congratulations, fantastic idea and great shot. Is the current constant or just 1 spark. Just ondering how many takes it took to get this shot.

Many thanks for the good will everybody.

In answer to your question Stevie, in the moment I took the photo it was continuously producing sparks, but I found it impossible to keep it doing this unaided for more than several seconds, and even then it only rarely produces longer arcs as in the picture - most of the time it just sparks momentarily when the carbon electrodes(pencils) are moved against each other. After much messing about to get lighting and exposure right, I think I took about fifty shots after that but stopped when I got this - it was exactly what I was looking for.
