A slightly adjusted version (exposure + cloud detail) of an image entered in the "Extreme" competition (June 2011) which did not receive much feedback, one of my favourites so I thought it was time to give it a new airing!

Very Pale rider, I like it. Maybe as a wall hanging, seeing as you like it so much. I have a cluster on one wall with my favourites which get changed occasionally.

I love it - and sorry I missed it before. I would crop it so that the tree is off centre but that is very much my perception. Excellent image.

A lovely image Mike. That must be the loneliest tree in the world.

The simplicity and the emptiness in this picture all contribute to a great shot.

Some more information about my image, it was taken in June 2009 in Andalusia, Spain, so Delia (Muddy Paws) you were spot on! actually several of Clint Eastwood's Spaghetti Westerns were filmed in this area. This edit of the image has got it about as close as I can remember, it was very hot with very thin high clouds which together with a very slight heat haze gave the muted colours shown.
I did try a rule of thirds crop but for me it just didn't work because the tree doesn't appear to be so lonely, I did have to crop the bottom of the image quite a bit from this viewpoint because of long grass growing at the edge of the road which is visible on the original, tried to base the crop on the Golden Mean instead, it is fairly close but I would have had to crop far more and again loose the loneliness of the tree if I were to adhere strictly to the rules, so it ended up like this!
Thanks for all the comments so far.

glad you have given it another airing, missed it before. i like the sense of isolation it gives, great colours in the sand for fore ground interest which meanders to the tree and the distant mountains add depth to the shot. thumbs up and a like from me

This would make a great painting Mike, Incredible how one tree could grow in the desert. A fabulous capture, well done. Pam.

A very unique landscape, certainly conveys the title.......around here they have a habit of putting up signs naming a forest with a handful or no trees established in the area....

I missed this one, it's an interesting image, certainly a good illustration of lonelyness.. and a good illustration of some places of Andalusia burned by the sun in summertime.. I know, my origins are there and I remember easily that crushing heat ..
