HS20EXR Lens Hood
Submitted by Jimmy Mack on Sat, 03/12/2011 - 18:21
A friend has recently purchased, secondhand, an HS20EXR. The camera came without a lens hood and a number of other standard items that come with a new camera. He purchased a non-Fuji hood and when this did not fit he asked me to see if my HS20 would accept the hood he purchased; it did. My Fuji hood would also not fit onto his camera. I can not find any reference to there being two types of hood. He is now concerned that he may have purchased a grey import or, worse still, a counterfeit model. Does anyone have any experience of this?

Hi James,
This is strange. Is the lens hood a screw or bayonet type?

Hi, i got my HS20 in Japan and it came without the lens hood, i ordered the Fuji one and it fits no problem. I think i may have read something on this site quite a while back about someone having trouble fitting the lens hood.

You can't have everything. Where would you put it?

I seem to recall Daz saying something about this. I think the fitting was just a bit tight and will go with a little effort.

I forgot to say, my lens hood was particularly tight at first, to the point i thought i was going to break the lens fitting it, but after taking it on and off a few times, it is fine now. Cheers Kim

Check the mounting on his camera to see if it has suffered any damage that's preventing it from going on and if not then get together with your friend to try to determine if he did get a counterfeit model, even though I've never heard of this happening.
