X-S1 Slow to boot
Submitted by Pjtyros on Fri, 03/02/2012 - 22:11
Hi, my X-S1 was delivered this week and I just love it but today I started to get problems. First when I try to select macro, in any mode, a lock sign would show in the centre of the screen, this also happened with other features. I did a reset from the tools menu and thatsolved the problem but now when I turn the camera on the screen lights but no functions show and no buttons work for about 15 to 20 seconds???
I have charged the battery, changed the SD card and done another reset but still the same, so I guess my camera is faulty?
Any help or suggestions, thanks.
Paul

Hmmm..... that doesn't inspire confidence! Haven't got my hands on an X-S1 yet and was really looking forward to trying one. Hope your problem is not a sign of things to come?
Sorry I can't help Paul but hope you manage to get a satisfactory solution to your camera troubles!

I also have been anticipating the arrival of the XS1. I'v read and watched many reviews on this camera, I had a quick look at one in Jessops last Sunday and in my hands its huge,, But reading the first negative comment has put me on the back foot. I will try and wait 6mths or so before buying, see if there are any underlying faults, I so hope Fuji resolve the problem £699.00 is a lot of saving.. Good luck

Hi Paul.
Have you been taking it from a warm inside to a cold outside or the other way around ?
Sometimes cameras need time to acclimatise.
Also have you formatted your card in the camera yet ?

Hi, and thanks for all the advice, I seem to have solved it, possibly. When this problem happened I had been trying all sorts of different settings, taking the card out and into the pc to download. The cards were formatted in the camera, and these shots were all indoors. I took a new card, formatted in the camera and now all is well so I took the original 2 cards and re-formatted those in the camera and now they work ok too. So somthing I did must have caused the bug that stopped the camera working correctly but I have no idea what.
So today everything here is getting photographed!!!!! trying to replicate the problem but so far so good.
I am not a pro at this game but just a keen amature but for what it is worth this camera is great I love it. I managed to get £130 off the list price so to me it was good value. Bugs or no bugs this is a keeper for sure.

Very glad you managed to sort it out. It sounds like you are happy with your purchase, "this is a keeper for sure".
I can't wait to get my hands on one at the Focus on Imaging show soon.

Well I have been able to repeat the problem. If I take the SD card and put it in the dongle to load to my iPad and then back into the camera the same thing happens unless I format the card. This only happens to the X-S1 and not with any of my other cameras. Rather strange.

Hi folks.
Yep you need to format the sd cards and switch on fast start. Reports from users at Dpreview and other sources I monitor all concur on this point. Doing this reduces start time to about 1.5 seconds. It also works for my HS20 as well.
