today after taking a Raw image in black and white (HS10) for the first tme that if open the image in either bridge or CS5 it opens as a colour image in camera raw. the image appears as a b&w thumbnail in CS5 and a colour one in bridgei then have to reduce the saturation to 0 to get it back to mono. mono jpgs appear in bridge and CS5 and open in mono in camera rawanyone else noticed this?

I want to resize a photo from 1.19 MB to 3 MB so that I can enter it for a competition.I have Photshop Elements 10 and Windows XP. I can't find an easy way of doing this and some sources say it spoils the quality anyway.I don't understand why the same camera - HS10- takes photos of 1.9 MB and also above 3 MB.Can anyonne help?Ayrman

After publishing my last tutorial I received some comments from friends saying that they loved Lightroom but found the Collections and Catalog aspects of the program confusing. I too took a bit of time to understand these when I first started using lightroom. So I have now added another tutorial to the Lightroom set along with some future tutorials that will be published in the near future to made a fairly comprehensive set of Lightroom Basic Tutorials. Please take a look and leave some feed back.http://wp.me/P1Ofj3-fw

I am living in Bangkok Thailand. I don't like buying pirated software. However, I am using the latest version of Photoshop which is a pirated version. Cost 6 U.S. dollars. I am unable to find any legitimate software for sale in the whole of Bangkok. Even the major stores sell only pirated versions with any title one can think of. The standard price is 6 U.S.. dollars for any program. Selling these programs here is against the law but corruption in the government allows it.

Yesterday I had a bit of a slip up,in that I didn't check my camera settings before shooting my first pictures of the day,I must admit it was a silly thing to do,but it has given me the chance to show why shooting in RAW is my first choice when possible (I do realise that some cameras do not have the capability),the first two pictures below are cropped, unedited versions of the original pictures, converted to JPEG so I could upload them to the site,as you can see when I said my settings were wrong I meant it lol

I thought I'd better have ago at editing some of pitures from my lastest blog. As there was comments about my pics being wonky (my words) Having a good look at my shots I can see what was meant. So for my first attempt I tried something simple. Straightening and a slight crop. I don't know what else I need to do. So any help, comments, advice or offers to come around and do it for me ( tea, coffee and biscuits provided). I used Photoscrape, not sure where I got it from.Am I right in thinking PS Elements will do similar stuff as I did look into getting it.

I am a total beginner in this field - in fact haven't even started and am just asking questions before I dive in, but I'd like to know if the free software such as Photoscape can do things like making high definition clouds and bright blue skies. What can't the free software do that the paid for ones can? Basically, I just want to improve my skies in my landscapes and I'm wondering if the free ones would do a good job. Many thanks,Karen

I had to go and do boring food shopping, so took a detour thtrough the local churchyard on route.I managed to get a fairly good snap of a ladybird on a livingstone daisy.Pre processingI loved the details of the raindrop on it's back and the muted colours. My OH however, said good snap, but could do with some photoshop magic. Being the dutiful wifey, I sent it over to him so he could play. The post production image follows.

Now that I'm getting a bit more serious about photography, and since I've seen some very impressive edited images, I'd like to maybe have a dabble at photo editing. However, I haven't a clue about it, what the software is and how to use it. I have heard there are free ones out there. The question is, does anyone have any experience with these, and if so are they any good? Also, how do you learn to use the software? Many thanks,Karen

Hi All,I replaced my aging Finepix S9600 by a new XS1. I am extremely pleased. The leap forward in image quality is amazing.I used to convert my RAW images using the freeware program UFRaw (http://ufraw.sourceforge.net/) which recognizes the S9600 .raf files and links seemlessly into the GIMP image processing program (http://www.gimp.org/). UFRaw cannot, however, read the XS1 .raf files.I installed Silkypix and this is OK for the XS1 but it cannot read the old S9600 files.

Hi,  Could anyone please advise if free online editing software such as Lunapic, Picasa and Pixlr are useful and worthwhile.  I haven't the means at present to buy editing software and wondered if anyone had used these and could recommend, (or not). Many thanks,  Gill

Hello All,Have just joined but have a small querry before I introduce myself. Yesterday I purchased the S3380 (Or so I thought) from a certain retailer in town. Upon opening the box it contained the S4300 and the software and manuals are for said camera. I did some research on the camera and found that it was not to be issued in the UK. What is the difference in both cameras and can use the S4300 in the UK with no loss of buyers privilages. Many thanks for your help and as I said at the top Strange this is.David
