HS30EXR focus problem, strange solution

new HS30EXR had focusing problem. After proper focus, pushing shutter button half-way would de-focus image, most apparent at long focal lengths.
Fuji solution: remove battery from camera for 24 hours. Appears to have worked. Sharp photos again.

I might try this as the focusing on mine is slow.

I know that bridge cameras are slow to focus but that's crazy!!!
