Random Thoughts
Submitted by Welsh Jen on Sat, 24/03/2012 - 18:44
Today has been a day full of random thoughts. I have no idea where they come from or why they flip in and out of my mind. There are times, I swear I time travel.
Today, they were about my childhood, picking blackberries with my Dad. We had an earthenware jug and filled it to the brim. I recall him telling me, not to bother with the red and not so ripe berries, the full, black and juicy ones only for a glorious tart.
Do you get, unsolicited, random thoughts, and if so, what are they?

Jen, Leave them overnight so the maggots will rise to the top before you use them.

Jen, I have had a lot of those recently prompted by reading through 60 years of my mums diaries and sifting through her possessions, it has reminded of many things that happened in the past, things that I have not thought about for years.

I can be standing in a supermarket queue and suddenly, there I am, picking blackberries, and I am seven years old!
While I am away picking blackberries, who is packing the shopping?
Jim, never pick blackberries under three foot from the ground.

I keep thinking I hear a cuckoo. Heard another one today. In a totally different place.
Jen my random thought often goes back to an old school friend, my best friend, who moved away years ago and I believe has died, but I cannot trace any family. We had such fantastic times together. Once spent a WHOLE day listening to The Beatles "Rubber Soul" album.

Always stuck with me and an image which randomly pops in my head: as a teenager sitting in the dark watching the red power light on the stereo listening to Tangerine Dream albums... as weird as it got for me :-S

Monty, you must be in my random dreams, I spent days listening to Rubber Soul. Carve you name upon my wall and maybe you will get a call from me!
Ian, how wonderful to be remembered as a glorious tart!
It's good to know I will not be alone when my random thoughts turn into forever.

Random thoughts are completely and utterly wonderful. Thanks for sharing yours Jen.
The other day I was suddenly in my gran's kitchen and was watching her doing the ironing in the 'scullery', as she called her modest kitchen.
She lit a Park Drive Tipped and worked her way through the clothes. The ciggie never left her lips and I still felt the amazement that the ash never left the end until she had finished her smoke. They were smoked right to the very las bit of baccy too.
Ahhh...... wonderful times indeed.....

Sunday school today. It didn't dawn on me that we were sent on a Sunday so that our parents could have 'nookie'
My sister went and I escaped and went to the river, spending my collection in Tucker's sweetshop (a little shop in the front room of the house). She said I would lose my soul to the devil and I would be damned for all time.

I only have to smell nutmeg, and I am back in my Nan's kitchen on baking day. Random thoughts? I was sitting in the car in the supermarket car-park last week, when in to my head came the house we grew up in. Don't know what started this thought off, just glad I wasn't driving at the time!!

I did have a funny dream last night that I was eating a giant marshmallow.

Jen, I will be damned too because I also spent my Sunday School collection money on Golden/Blackcurrant and Liquorice Humbugs from the local corner shop. At the age of 43 I only recently owned up to my Mum! Thankfully I wasn't grounded. ;)
