There I was sat up the garden like the big white hunter waiting for some wild beast to appear and draw a bead and fire. Now I allowed for wind, elevation, sunlight, shade and just the right amount of zoom. EXCEPT, unknown to me I had accidently spun the control knob one notch from 'M' 1200 sec, F 13 to 'A' 3200 sec F 7.1 a setting I wouldn't have considered because of the DOF of the zoom at 400mm. Perhaps with the shot being full sideways on it was more forgiving. Who was a lucky sod or what, thank you God.
