a super image, if viewing this gives one three wishes, my first wish is to capture shots like this, my second would be for a teapot like the one in the photograph and I'd forfeit the third just to have the other two come true.

Wow thanks all for the feedback and kind words.
I did a blog with more that you can see here:
http://www.myfinepix.com/blog/259473/495006
I also did an article describing the set up and process. It shows 2 methods one using strobes and the other using very inexpensive high intensity task lamps from Ikea. This particular image was done using strobes but it very possible to do this using every day lighting. You can read the article here:

It is not an easy subject.. as an amateur (I'm an amateur now), I can say good shot. As a former photographer in advertising, well I could modulate that. (i.e. highlights on the teapot are too strong for me). But it's too difficult in english and I prefer not to try. And to be honest I have forgotten almost everything cos' it's a long time now. And the most important, I have lost my eye. Not physically, I mean the capacity to see and judge, the most important thing for a professional, that you get after years. So, when I see the tools you use, I can say : good shot and well done !... I speak like that because it's the kind of articles I used to photography when I was a professional, many years ago, I hope you understand...
The camera I used to take my picture was a small Sony compact, with aperture 2.8 on this photo, you can imagine... numeric world is another world...

Edy Thanks I do appreciate that.
These images were my first ever attempts at smoke photos and this one was done Wednesday for the daily challenge. I didn't use my best gear. I only my HS10 with my Nikon strobes. This being done for a daily challenge I set it up on my kitchen counter with only a short time to sort it out so considering this was not a bad result. More time would probably have yielded a better result. I did get a better result working with a coffee mug but I wanted to use the teapot for the challenge. I actually was hoping to coax the smoke out through the spout of the teapot but that didn't work at all...the incense was too starved for oxygen and didn't produce adequate smoke.
This one was a little better but still I think I would do it a bit differently given more time to work it out. I don't like the conflicting highlight on the right. I didn't use my light stands like I normally would and was having difficulty controlling where the smoke light hit. This was also done with the HS10:
I was mostly just trying to get the smoke right and not worrying too much about the pot or the cup. Given more time I think I would have worked it out and probably fired the left strobe through a diffusion screen. Unfortunately the incense smoke has really aggravated my throat and lungs so I won't be doing any more smoke shots any time soon.
As for your image of the girl by the pool I fully understand the limits for controlling the DOF when using a small camera with a small sensor as I said in my comments.

Edy...no offence but I would really prefer that you didn't do that without asking me first.
That image was taken in my living room...the flute was sitting on the bookshelf...no special lighting just the existing ambient daylight in the room and a quick snap.
As far as your edit...the black and white tone is a bit too muddy for my taste. I prefer more contrast in black and white. I know my shot was low contrast but I also didn't intend for it to be black and white.
It was submitted for a weekly challenge for selective focus and as such no post processing editing was allowed other than cropping and straightening so all I did was apply a very slight crop mainly because my viewfinder is not 100% so sometimes the framing is not exactly what I want.
