The desk I made using the fibres filter and dry brush filter with a few layers blended.
The “journal” is from a photograph of a new spiral note book and the text was added as a layer. The Grand Canyon page was from a 2004 booklet which I textured and to which I added ragged edges. The lunettes, tankard, paperclip, travel clock and journal I photographed for the task.
A nice piece of work Alan. I like the fact you used your own stock, my only cc would be that it appears that the paperclip could do with a bit more erasing at the top of the page/snapshot & there is some blur around the cup between 8 & 12 o`clock ?
As I said though,a nice piece of work, hope mine turns out as well !!
I agree, the paperclip doesn't look right in this smaller view even though it looked OK at a larger view, I have tweaked the original to make it more obvious that the paperclip is attached properly. The blurring too is supposed to be a water ring on the wood and I think it looks more obvious at a larger scale. Just noticed another glitch too at the bottom of the printed page. DASH! I have posted a larger example of the tweaked version to my Flickr gallery, link below, if you want to look.
Looks like you've been in the attic and found a trunk full of someone else's memories - we've all done it - and spent an hour or two raking through the trinkets trying to imagine their life to capture some of the essence of their unknown past !
The Flickr image does indeed reveal a lot of the finer detail which doesn't come over quite as well here and I can't spot any flaws other than that you've already mentioned. It all gels together well for me and everything is "grounded" with just the right shadow....it could almost be a "still life" photograph of a display you've laid out on your desk !

I used the deep scratch brush and a free old map from http://web.mac.com/bjdesign/AntiqueandHistorical/Antique_Home.html.
I used a trial version of CS5 for this.

Another really good effort, it has a well aged look about it plus lots of interest, nice job.

This is really good Alan, I like all elements that you've put into this one and you have created a very good layout.
